When you've had a look at the sample session plan at
the bottom of this page and checked out the
Premium technical syllabus,
drills and
practice plans I think you'll agree that Premium is rather special.
But never mind what I think...what do
people who've used Premium have to say
about it?

"I've studied Premium for the last week or
so and it is excellent. The "ethos" behind the
technical syllabus is easy to understand and allows less
qualified coaches (I'm level 1) to communicate to their kids at a level
that they will understand. The
drills
are well laid out and the graphics easy to follow (my U11s were
able to understand quicker this weekend because I could show them the
drill on paper as well as talking them through it).
I used the defending drills this weekend
with both age groups I coach. There was an immediate impact on my U8s as
in their match the next day they moved away from swarming and made sure
that there was a covering defender at all times without needing any
coaching from the touchline.
The best recommendation came from two coaches who were observing my
session this weekend. They both said that they would be using the drills
with their own teams next weekend. I told them that there were plenty
more on your website." Nigel, UK

The
session plan below - 'Defending - The Role of the First Defender' - is
one of the 56
Premium practice plans.
All
Premium
session plans provide:
-
a
summary that gives you the background to the session,
-
a
downloadable pdf. file that provides a detailed plan you can take to
your coaching session
-
comprehensive coaching notes that tell you what to look for and what
to say.
The notes
also have links to all the Premium drills
and games that you can use to reinforce the skill or technique that
you're teaching.
Each drill can be downloaded as a full page
diagram that you can show to your
players - they'll pick up new drills much more quickly if they can see a
nice big diagram before they do it for the first time.
You also get a handy guide to warm ups/cool downs that you can use in
practice sessions or matches.
Defending - The Role of the First
Defender
Short summary
of the session:
Watch any junior or adult grassroots game and you
are likely to have plenty opportunities to repeat Alan Hanson's
constant refrain of "terrible defending". Failing to close
down quickly enough, not getting tight, allowing opponents to
turn, diving in and going to ground, are just some of the, all too
common, errors that will cost our team vital goals. Teaching
players how to defend effectively in 1 v 1 situations is
essential. Every player in the team is a defender when we lose the
ball, even strikers need to know how to close down full-backs and
put them under pressure. Praise players who show ability to
defend, they rarely get much recognition compared to the strikers.
Try to create a sense of pride in good defending within your
squad.
