Warming Up

Many of the introductory activities in the session plans begin at a low intensity and can be built up gradually. How much time you spend doing specific warm-ups is up to you as a coach based on your knowledge of your group, the session plan and how much time you have available.

Ten minutes are allocated in each session for a warm-up. A large number of drills are suitable for this purpose if they are used with appropriate conditions. It is useful to have a lot of ball work especially with younger players with one ball per player if possible.

A pdf document is available below which contains ideas for simple dynamic warm-up activities and tag type games. These can also be used pre-match and adapted for the age and experience of the particular team. A number of drills that are particularly suitable as warm-up activities are also listed below.
